It seems to me that there has become an increase in crises lately. Not just in DeLand, but nationally. I think the media is getting a great deal of practice, and has definitely started to master covering as much as possible and they are getting increasingly quick in responding to each crisis. As I said in my post last week, my hometown in NJ had suffered a threat in which caused the media to jump on the story and cover it from beginning to end. Last year we watched them cover the Casey Anthony trial, preceded by the disappearance of Kaylee Anthony. After that I watched the budget crisis unfold in my living room, and was always kept aware of the damage from the tornadoes in Joplin. In Florida last month, we watched the media cover the tornados that did most of its damage in northern parts of Florida, the most recent coverage being spotlighted on Trayvon Martin and his possible wrongful death, and today's crash of a double engine, experimental plane, into the DeLand publix. It seems as though every crisis that unravels, becomes more covered and the broadcast media runs more smoothly, they seem more prepared. I also notice an increase in news streaming on the internet. More news articles making it to the search engines, and an increase in response. It seems when I would get news from my television, minutes later it was printed and online.
On a side note, I just want to thank all those who responded quickly to the crash tonight. Thankfully we can all say that no one was killed. The rescue/fire/police and every other department that responded to the scene, did so in a quick fashion and aided all those involved, not to mention the fire was contained very quickly.
