Obama's New Sideshow

The Obama team has started a new, but vaguely familiar offensive. To bury and confuse voters by pointing out how little Romney has paid in taxes, as compared to themselves. This tactic brings us back not too far to the Republican primary race when Newt Gingrich was starting to slide in national polls he, out of desperation used this line of attack. Since then Mr. Gingrich has had to suspend campaign activities. So this brings me to think, is this a winning strategy or part of the winning strategy for the Obama campaign? I cannot answer than hear, we will all have to stay tuned and see how it fares for him.

  1. It will be very interesting to see how this plays out. I think the Obama machine, with their billion dollar war chest, will be coming at Romney from all sides: taxes, healthcare, views on abortion, you name it. What will be interesting to watch is how Romney counterattacks Obama. While the president has been taking in a lot of money, Romney hasn't been doing too bad himself. Because Romney is the establishment candidate, he has been able to draw in the major money backers of the Republican party. And, with the nomination all but won, the big money men of the other candidates will come over to Romney.

One thing that is important to mention is that Romney is going to have to have a good grassroots campaign as well in order to rival Obama. I think with the suspension of the Santorum campaign we are going to see Romney really start his general election campaign (which he has been doing from the beginning anyway). I think we could see a tightening of the poll numbers and, in the end, I think this election will rest largely on the progress of the economy (as most of them do).
