After our heartfelt yet heated discussion today I wanted to read more up on the current happenings of Bradley Manning. The article says that he is facing over 23 counts including aiding the enemy which would put him in prison for life. Before I talk about how the author portrayed Manning, I believe that this kind of stuff happens all the time, except the people at fault get taken care of before it gets to the media. I also believe Manning wanted to release the wrong that the military had be doing but maybe he couldnt do so without releasing important secretive information as well. Was the sacrifice worth it then? I believe if he did it out of the simple fact that he didnt want to represent something like that. He could have just told after his time was over, but then how credible would he be? Probably not from my opinion. As far as the media depicted him in this article and others I read as more of a traitor than anything. They used quotes such as "spoiled army brat" to describe him and said he had a hot headed personality. That already says to the public that he is a "bad" kind of person The photos are also showing him in custody which provides a look at him from a negative lens right off the bat. He does have followers who think he is a hero but all of the articles I have seen on him have depicted him from a negative standpoint. I dont think this is fair especially when no one but Manning and the military truly know what goes on behind the scene.
